(This is from one of my favorite blogs, Wired Magazine’s Listening Post. Evidently the writer has never heard Ken’s interview with Serj Tankian on Integral Naked, or this news would probably not be so shocking to him…. ~Corey) System of a Down Topic for New Documentary to Raise Genocide Awareness
How's this for a movie synopsis: Documentary feature examining why genocides keep occurring - from the Armenian genocide in 1915, to the Holocaust, Bosnia, Rwanda and now Darfur - through the eyes and music of the Grammy award-winning rock band "System of a Down"... I laughed out loud when I read that, but it turns out all of the members of a SOAD are grandchildren of genocide survivors. But, we all know genocide is the new AIDS for celebrities (e.g. Angelina and Brad Jolie), so it's not surprising to hear such a juxtaposition of tragedy with often-tragic music. While SOAD urges awareness of truly tragic human exterminations worldwide, it will always seem odd coming from the same mouths that sings: The damage, my Clan understand it be flavor Gunnin, hummin comin atcha First I'm gonna getcha, once I gotcha, I gat-cha (ed. note: these lyrics are not actually from an SOAD song, but from their cover of a Wu-Tang Clan track. ~Corey) Screamers Trailer
