In Honor of Stonewall—a date all lovers of justice, freedom, truth, beauty, and goodness should never forget…

In Honor of Stonewall—today, June 28th, a date all lovers of justice, freedom, truth, beauty, and goodness should never forget—I’m including an email from my friend Joe Perez, whose book Soulfully Gay I wrote a foreword for (I’ll include this foreword in an upcoming blog). Joe’s most recent book, Rising Up, is now available as an online ebook (see link below); both of them are highly recommended. Check it out…. kw

Ken,

Just wanted to mention that my "Rising Up" book is now available. Below is the press release.  Sorry for the limited advance notice, but I'm striving to hit the 6/28 Stonewall anniversary.

Sending much love, Joe

P.S.: FYI - my instructor in screenwriting at the Seattle Film Institute is looking over my screenplay adaptation of "Soulfully Gay" now, and I hope to have an official draft in a month or two. It's a tragedy/horror flick in the spirit of "A Beautiful Mind" and "The Sixth Sense," though these comparisons don't quite do justice to its originality--I'd be very pleased to hear comparisons to "The Matrix" and "V for Vendetta."  I'll shoot you a copy when it's ready. Yes, there is a "Ken Wilber" character in this *fictional* work so it should be a most interesting read for you.  :-)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Joe Perez Aims to Show Integral Thinking in Action with Print-on-Demand and Ebook Availability of Rising Up at Lulu.com

SEATTLE, WA—JUNE 28, 2006—Joe Perez applies integral philosophy to the most critical issues facing the gay and lesbian community with the publication of Rising Up in conjunction with Lulu (www.lulu.com), the world's fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books.

Officially released today on the 37th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, Rising Up is a collection of over 120 short reflections on gay culture, politics, and spirit. The reflections were originally composed as weblog posts for Perez's blog on integral theory and practice at www.joe-perez.com. The diverse topics include political philosophy and strategy, cultural criticism, sexuality, religion, personal development, and integral spirituality.

Rising Up is one of the first works to illustrate how integral theory--a comprehensive worldview based on evolutionary philosophy and the mystical core of the world's religions--may be applied in personal, cultural, political, and social contexts. Religious, conservative, and liberal outlooks receive extensive scrutiny as Perez points to their limitations even as he enfolds their wisdom in a higher synthesis.

"I have chosen the print-on-demand and ebook route for Rising Up because it's a natural extension of the independent and do-it-yourself spirit that has made blog publishing so revolutionary," said Joe Perez. "I can offer my readers a book much more quickly than with conventional publishing. And with material this timely and imperative, readers and authors alike benefit from the rapid delivery made possible with Lulu."

For more information or to read sample chapters of the book, see: http://www.lulu.com/joeperez

Rising Up (ISBN: 978-1-4116-9173-5) is available at a suggested retail price of $16.98 in print-on-demand and $6.25 for ebook. Media (including bloggers) may request review copies.
